LETS FORGET ABOUT THE COLD

Just because everybody is talking about snow and being so cold i started missing the summer and the beach!
It’s easy for us Portuguese to miss it! Let’s see!

Located in southwestern Europe, Portugal is the westernmost country of mainland Europe and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south and by Spain to the north and east. The Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira are also part of Portugal.
Portugal is one of the warmest European countries, the annual temperature averages in mainland Portugal are 13 °C (55 °F) in the north and 18 °C (64 °F) in the south and it is over 20 °C (68°F) on the warmest spots, like south coast of Madeira island.

All that you can see in blue is the Ocean! Right… do we love our water or what??

There are amazing beaches around Lisbon! Sesimbra, Ericeira, Troia, Costa da Caparica, Guincho, Praia Grande, Comporta, Carvalhal ( my favorite and my favorite restaurant too ) and so on

This is the link to Carvalhal beach and the best restaurant you can go to near Lisbon

CASCAIS it’s only about 30minutes from Lisbon and my mom was born there. I love it!

GUINCHO is near Cascais and it’s a little wild..and beautiful . It’s great for an winter day with your lover or best friends!

SESIMBRA where i spent my summer vacation is also very close to Lisbon. 45 minutes or so.

ERICEIRA 50 km from Lisbon and there is a Surf championship every year there. Ericeira offers a lot more besides surfing to those interested in sport. Body-boarding, skim-boarding, windsurfing, fishing, diving, sailing, jet-skiing, water-skiing and beach-volley are some of the activities enjoyed at the beaches of the village.

COSTA DA CAPARICA just outside Lisbon 13km( some say 30 km ,i don’t really know) of beach!30 minutes from my house!
you can see it here

I miss it so much!

We know that that 10th place in the Vancouver World Championships and the fact that all Portuguese athletes are having bad results at Beijing , are making Vanessa very upset and that at this moment she is having a hard time believing in her chances of winning a medal, the only one she doesn’t have! An Olympic medal!
That’s ok.
We are so proud of this little woman !
Do your best ,for yourself, with the same joy and simplicity  you always offer us!
GOOD LUCK  FOR TOMORROW VANESSA!

Jane Austen’s A History of England (by a partial, prejudiced and ignorant historian)

5th
Aug. × ’08

This was posted at janeaustenfans and it is delicious:

The British Library has started a monumental project: to put a number of the rare books stored in its archives online, so that anyone can virtually thumb through them from the comfort of their home, and without the worry that they’ll get grubby finger smudges or jam on the delicate, highly valuable pages.

So far, around twenty books have been added to the Turning the Pages project, including rare religious texts, Jane Austen’s early work, the first atlas of Europe, Diamond Sutra, printed in China in 868, Lewis Carroll’s original “Alice in Wonderland”, sketches by Leonardo da Vinci, and Mozart’s musical diary.
The Jane Austen work included is her A History of England, written when she was just sixteen. It is copied out in her handwriting, and illustrated with Cassandra Austen’s delicate little watercolor portraits of the kings and queens Jane writes about. It is also screamingly funny. Her entry on Mary I begins:
This woman had the good luck of being advanced to the throne of England, inspite of the superior pretensions, Merit, & Beauty of her Cousins Mary Queen of Scotland & Jane Grey. Nor can I pity the Kingdom for the misfortunes they experienced during her Reign, since they fully deserved them, for having allowed her to succeed her Brother – which was a double peice of folly, since they might have foreseen that as she died without Children, she would be succeeded by that disgrace to humanity, that pest of society, Elizabeth.
The scan is beautiful, and they have reproduced the text in the touch of a button if you have trouble reading the handwriting
